S2RSkillsforWork is a new programme for 15-19 year olds which will develop tailored pathways into training or employment, for vulnerable young people who are NEET or likely to become NEET. This differentiated programme for 15-19 year olds will develop speaking and listening, employability and digital skills and confidence, within a real-world context. Skills recognition will be provided by Open Badges and validation through employer endorsement, to open up routes into localised work or further training opportunities for participants.
This new model will address the skills deficit and youth unemployment rate amongst the most disadvantaged young people, by providing them with skills, the opportunity to explore employment pathways and enabling them to make informed choices at times of transition. It will formalise an approach for wider community engagement and access to progression pathways by connecting schools, colleges, third sector providers including FSF learning centres in sports clubs, LA Youth and other services and local employer networks within cities who will act as ‘connected learning hubs.’
